The Moscow Kremlin Museums take part in the exhibition project "Pushkin. Pages of History" organised by the State Historical Museum on the occasion of the 225th anniversary of the birth of A.S. Pushkin.
One of the sections of the show is devoted to A.S. Pushkin's work on the drama "Boris Godunov", which he wrote after reading the chapters on the Time of Troubles in "The History of the Russian State" by N.M. Karamzin. The displayed items are related to the key event of the drama: the murder of the Tsarevich Dmitry on the orders of Boris Godunov (Karamzin's version, and the one that Pushkin followed).
The Moscow Kremlin Museums present a unique artefact – the hat of Tsarevich Dmitry (called "tafja" in ancient times). In 1606 the young tsarevich was canonized as the Passion-bearer, Blessed Dimitry of Uglich, and his relics were transferred from Uglich to Moscow and placed in a special shrine in the nave of the Archangel Cathedral in the Moscow Kremlin. The first written mention of the hat dates back to the 17th century, when it was kept in the State Workshop of the Moscow Kremlin. According to the list of the Archangel Cathedral, the hat made of dark red cloth was transferred to the shrine of Saint Dimitry of Uglich on 20 August 1700 by order of Tsar Peter Alexeyevich. Here it was being kept, together with other things attributed to Tsarevich Dmitry, until the beginning of the 20th century, when it was handed over for preservation to the Armoury Chamber.
