On 30 September 2016, “Elegance and Splendour of Art Deco. The Kyoto Costume Institute, Jewelry Houses Cartier and Van Cleef & Arpels” Exhibition Opening ceremony took place in the One-Pillar Chamber of the Patriarch’s Palace.

The exposition is arranged both in the the One-Pillar Chamber of the Patriarch's Palace and in the exhibition hall of the Assumption Belfry. On display is the collection of women’s clothing by haute couture European houses of the Art Deco period from the Kyoto Costume Institute (Japan), complemented with jewels of 1910–1930s created by outstanding jewelry houses Cartier and Van Cleef & Arpels, together with original designs and photographs from the archives.

Director General of the Moscow Kremlin Museums Elena Gagarina thanked all the guests and partners of the exhibition and pointed out the activity of Japanese colleagues while working on the exhibition catalogue. She also expressed gratitude to the French colleagues – jewelry houses Cartier and Van Cleef & Arpels.

The Director of the Kyoto Costume Institute (KCI) Kikuo Yamamoto noticed that it was an honour for the Kyoto Costume Institute to introduce the collection of the KCI in the Moscow Kremlin Museums. “It’s hard to explain my feelings, giving Russian people an opportunity to get acquainted with the collection of the Kyoto Costume Institute in Moscow,” he said. Kikuo Yamamoto also expressed his hope for the exhibition to “become a sort of a bridge uniting cultures of Russia and Japan”.

Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Russia Toyohisa Kozuki noted that the exhibition represents a contribution to forming Russian-Japanese relationship and improving cross-cultural communication.

Deputy Chairman of the Rosbank Konstantin Artioukh greeted the guests on behalf of the Rosbank and remarked professionalism, peculiar taste and high standard, proper to the Moscow Kremlin Museums. “Rosbank has been a partner of the Moscow Kremlin Museums from 2002. Since that time we’ve supported more than 10 exhibitions, which form the golden fund of cultural events in Moscow and Russia. Rosbank is a part of Societe Generale Group, and it is a pleasure to support the display, one of the reasons is that the Art Deco style originated in France,” he noticed. Konstantin Artioukh expressed confidence that the collections presented at the exhibition would arouse much interest of the Moscow citizens and the guests of the capital.
