On 8 September 2023, the exhibition "Alexander II: Liberator and Reformer" has opened in the Khabarovsk Regional Museum named after N.I. Grodekov. There are over 50 pieces from the Moscow Kremlin Museums’ collection, including personal belongings of the Emperor and artefacts commemorating key events in the Russian history. Many of them have left the Kremlin and are being shown to the public for the first time.

The opening ceremony of the exhibition was attended by the Director General of the Moscow Kremlin Museums Elena Gagarina, the Director General of the Khabarovsk Regional Museum named after N.I. Grodekov Ivan Kryukov, the Governor of Khabarovsk KraiMikhail Degtyaryov, the Speaker of the Legislative Duma of Khabarovsk Krai Irina Zikunova, and the Minister of Culture of Khabarovsk Krai Yury Ermoshkin.

"Emperor Alexander II made it into Russian history as the tsar-liberator and reformer, and his reign became a period of great reforms, the most important of which was the abolition of serfdom. In a short period of time, on the Emperor's initiative, significant changes were made that affected all areas of life, "said Elena Gagarina. She also read the welcome address from the Russian Minister of Culture Olga Lyubimova.

"It is significant that in the anniversary year of the foundation of Khabarovsk, an exhibition dedicated to the Emperor, who made a significant contribution to the appearance of the city on the map of Russia, is being launched. And unique exhibits from the country's leading museum will be available to Khabarovsk residents and guests of our region," added the Director General of the Khabarovsk Krai Museum.

The honoured guests thanked the management of the Moscow Kremlin Museums for the fruitful cooperation in the cultural sphere. The Governor of the Khabarovsk Krai Mikhail Degtyaryov noted that knowledge of history is very important today and that the exhibits presented at the exhibition will bring great pleasure to the visitors.

The exhibition "Alexander II: Liberator and Reformer" is on display until 3 March 2024.
