On the 26 of August, the Khabarovsk Regional Museum named after N.I. Grodekov opened an exhibition dedicated to the metal that has occupied a special place in the history of mankind.
The opening ceremony was attended by Irina Kupchenko – Deputy Minister of Culture of Khabarovsk Krai, Ivan Kryukov – Director General of the Khabarovsk Regional Museum named after N.I. Grodekov, and Elena Milovzorova – Director of the Department of Publishing and Special Programs of the Moscow Kremlin Museums.
"The exhibition "Gold!" is the second joint project of the Khabarovsk Regional Museum and the Moscow Kremlin Museums. This is indeed a golden, rich and unique gift from our colleagues on the occasion of the 130th Anniversary of the Grodekov Museum. And, of course, it is a gift to all the inhabitants of Khabarovsk city, the Khabarovsk Krai and guests of our beloved, wonderful region. I hope that the visitors to the museum, those who have already seen the exhibition "Gold!" and those who will see it later, will get real pleasure from seeing, discovering and getting acquainted with truly the most famous precious metal," said Igor Kryukov.
"We have brought you extraordinary works of art, archaeological finds, jewellery and vessels. Some of them were made in the workshops of the Moscow Kremlin, many of them – by famous jewellers. Today is an important day, because you will not only see the objects that we have selected – you will be the first to see them, since most of the pieces are not on display in the permanent expositions of our museum, and the citizens of Moscow have never seen them," Elena Milovzorova noted.
A video message from Elena Gagarina, Director General of the Moscow Kremlin Museums, was also shown at the opening ceremony. "This year we have prepared an exhibition for the citizens of Khabarovsk, dedicated to gold, the most famous precious metal in the world. Of course, this is no coincidence: the theme is relevant to Khabarovsk Krai – the land of rich deposits and the leading gold mining region in our country," said Elena Gagarina.
Irina Kupchenko read a welcome message from Marina Loskutnikova, acting Minister of Culture of the Khabarovsk region.
The exhibition features over two hundred items, including the treasure trove of 552 coins found in the cellar of a house near the Moscow Kremlin, antique coins of Philip II of Macedon and Alexander the Great, pieces from the famous Sudzha hoard and a magnificent gold cigarette case made by the Carl Fabergé company.
The "Gold!" exhibition is scheduled to run until 3 March 2024.
