On 7 September 2024, the Lecture Hall and Children’s Centre of the Moscow Kremlin Museums will host an Open Day.
“On City Day, we open the doors of the Lecture Hall and Children’s Centre of the Moscow Kremlin Museums and invite everyone interested in history and arts, who wants to learn something new, broaden their horizons, extend the school competence or introduce the world of pictorial art and architecture to children. We will present a variety of museum educational programmes, introduce our lectors and teachers. We hope that the guests of the Open Day will return here, in the very heart of Moscow, again and again for the unique knowledge,” states Olga Dmitrieva, Deputy Director for Enlightenment and Museum Popularization.
The Head of the Children’s Centre, Nadezhda Roshchina, and the Chief of the Lecture Department, Katalin Medvedeva, will discuss the events planned for the new season. The special programme, divided into two blocks, will follow, with the most interesting lectures and masterclasses.
The first block will begin with the presentation of the educating projects, then the guests will hear two lectures “Moscow Kremlin through the Centuries” and ”Moscow Kremlin. The 20th Century. Chronicle of Men’s Destinies”. The second block will start with the presentation, then lectures “One Day from the Tsar’s Life” and “Russian Jewellery Art” will be held.
Separately, the museum collaborators will discuss children’s programmes and conduct a masterclass on “Tsar-Warrior” for children aged 7 and over.

Block 1
11:00 – Presentation “Educating Projects of the Moscow Kremlin Museums for Adults and Children”
11:30 – Lecture «Moscow Kremlin through Centuries»
The audience will learn, who built the first fortress on the Bortovitsky Hill, what it was like and when the familiar red walls appeared in the Kremlin. The lecture will end with a quiz “How Well Do You Know the Moscow Kremlin?”
12:15 – ”Moscow Kremlin. The 20thCentury. Chronicle of Men’s Destinies”
The lecture is devoted to the everyday life and household of the Kremlin residents who had moved there along with the Soviet government in 1918 and remained on its territory until the fortress became a closed citadel and residency of the Soviet leaders.

Block 2
13:00 – Presentation “Educating Projects of the Moscow Kremlin Museums for Adults and Children”
13:30 – Lecture “One Day from the Tsar’s Life”
It will tell about numerous duties of the Russian tsars that not only showed an example of the righteous life but also rendered justice, and handled military and diplomatic affairs. At the end of the lecture, there will be a quiz “Tsar, Tsarevich Were Sitting on the Golden Porch …”
14:15 – Lecture “Russian Jewllery Art”
Kolty (headdress pendants), barmy (regalia collar), potiry (chalices) and bowls – all these are precious pieces of Old Russian jewellery. The guests will learn about the treasures found in troves in the 19th century or kept in the royal treasury. The lecture will end with a quiz “Yakhont (Old Rus. - sapphire), Lal (ruby) and Adamant (diamond). Russian Jewellers at the Tsar Court”.

Presentation of the Programmes of the Children’s Centre
13:30 - 15:00 – Masterclass “Tsar-Warrior” for children aged 7 and over.
From the earliest times, the image of a tsar was based on his military valour and skill in warfare. During the masterclass, the children will learn about the ceremonial arms and armour of the Russian sovereigns. With the help of museum collaborators, they will create a doll of “tsar-warrior” on horseback, “dress” him in armour and take this memorable souvenir home.
