2009

In 2009 restoration works were carried out on the northern side of the western facade of the Armoury Chamber, including western and northern side of the front staircase, facades of the staircase in the administrative building and overground passage leading from the Armoury building to a place where the exhibition of gifts to Stalin was held in 1930s.

The western facade of the Armoury Chamber fronted onto a closed courtyard, surrounded by equal-sized buildings, therefore it has been much more protected from environmental impacts than other facades. The most damaged parts of the building which required restoration works were the white-stone pilasters, facing plaster on brick walls and window grills.

During the restoration process the damaged white-stone elements of some capitals, carved pillars and shaped cornices were replaced by new pieces. Copper coverings of the cornices and weatherings were also renovated; the corroded details, superimposed on forged window grills, were replaced by new pieces, the metal corrosion was removed from the surfaces which were later painted with red lead. Upon completion of restoration works on walling material, the facades were completed with a renovated décor.

Finishing works were carried out also in the interior of the front hall of the Armoury Chamber.
