The Elegance of Silver: Valuables of the Omani Court
- Price:
- 2900 RUB.
This catalogue published in conjunction with the exhibition of the same name at the Moscow Kremlin Museums presents the experience of studying the Omani culture, the core of which is the main national symbol – the khanjar dagger. The works on display, ranging from traditional daggers to jewellery and national costumes, are designed to highlight the special significance of craftsmanship combined with symbolism. They also illustrate the relationship between power and art, diplomatic exchange and cultural pride.
Combining tradition and innovation, the silverware on display is a striking example of the highest level of craftsmanship by Omani artisans. They are not only accessories, but also embody sacred protection, which adds meaning and depth to the exhibition, revealing the spiritual connection between material objects and existing beliefs.
The catalogue of the exhibition 'The Elegance of Silver: Valuables of the Omani Court' is thematically structured and consists of an introductory article – a historical sketch – and six sections containing brief catalogue descriptions of the objects.
Each section of the publication is dedicated to a particular aspect of Oman's historical and cultural heritage. Groups of artefacts provide an introduction to the national symbolism of the Sultanate and represent ancient findings on the country’s territory. The first section tells about a significant object in the Omani history – the khanjar dagger, the peculiarities of its carrying and its accessories, and the interpretation of the dagger’s image in contemporary design. The most extensive chapter in the catalogue features the Omani jewellery art, showing different types and forms of traditional silver accessories, and revealing their hidden meanings and symbolism. Separate chapters are dedicated to national costume and the personal belongings of prominent figures in Oman’s history.
The catalogue is on sale in the museum shops in the Alexander Garden, in front of the Patriarch's Palace and in the Armoury Chamber.
