European church music of the beginning of the 17th century
October 9, 2015. The Armoury Chamber
The festival will be opened by one of the most original ensembles of the early music «Le Poeme Harmonique» (France), conducted by Vincent Dumestre. The well - known choir «Intrada» will also take part in this concert. Musicians will perform music by the French composer Guillaume Bouzignac (1587 - c. 1643), which was Boris Godunov’s contemporary. Bouzignac received music education at the cathedral at his native town and he worked as a choirmaster, as well as a composer. Then he removed abroad and continued composing sacred music while living in Italy and probably in Spain. Mature works by Bouzignac reveal considerable Italian and Spanish influences. He was one of the leading figures in the European church music of the 17th century and is immortalized as one of the masters of the early baroque French music.
